Starting Your GI Bill

1.     Go to www.gibill.va.gov

2.     Follow the steps at the top of the page.

        A.    Step 1 will help you decide which chapter of GI bill is best for you.

        B.    Step 2 will take you to an online site to complete the application for benefits.

Using Your GI Bill at Cochise College

1.     Every student must turn in a Semester Benefit request EVERY time the student enrolls in
classes, or no enrollment information will be sent to the VA. This includes guest students from
other schools. Guest students must also turn-in a parent school letter from their school.

2.     All chapters, except Vocational Rehabilitation (CH31), and Post 9/11 (CH33) must enroll and
pay for their classes before turning-in the semester benefit request. Brand new veteran
student may get a ONE-TIME ONLY tuition deferment.

3.     All students must be following a degree plan and turn-in a copy of their degree plan to the VA
desk by the end of their second semester.

4.     If a veteran student drops a class, is Roster Dropped, Instructor Dropped or receives a “W”
as a final grade, their enrollment will be changed and the VA may charge them for an
overpayment. The VA does not pay for “W” or other non-punitive grades.

5.     If a student adds or drops a class, it is the students’ responsibility to notify the VA desk.
